Sims Memorial Library at Southeastern Louisiana University invites applications for two positions: the Reference/Instruction Librarian Position and the Evening Reference Librarian Position.

Job Summary

These two positions provide formal and informal instruction in the use of print and electronic information sources. Instruction service includes tours, general and subject-specific bibliographic instruction sessions, and the for-credit information literacy course, Library Science 102. Both positions provide face-to-face and online reference service to students, faculty, staff and the local community using print and electronic reference tools as well as other library resources and services. Reference/Instruction librarians performs other duties as assigned to support the service initiatives of the Reference Department and the Library.   
 
The Reference/Instruction Librarian Position works a regular daily schedule and night and weekend hours as needed.  This position teaches several sections of the information literacy course simultaneously.

The Evening Reference Librarian Position works a regular weekly schedule of 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and supervises student employees. This position teaches fewer sections of the information literacy course, but may also teach single-session bibliographic instruction sessions to evening classes.

Both positions report to the Head of Reference/Instruction. Both positions are full-time faculty positions at the rank of Instructor.

Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
 
Candidates must have a strong public service ethic. They must demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.   All must be committed to working with diversity.
 
Candidates will be asked to prepare a class lesson as part of the interview.
