Full-time Position (40 hours/week)
Description:
Under the general guidance and direction of the Technical Services Manager, the Copy Cataloger is responsible for electronically locating non-fiction bibliographic records in all formats, editing these records to adhere to local standards, and maintain these records once saved in the local database. The copy cataloger also helps maintain various authority records in relation to the non-fiction bibliographic records. The copy cataloger actively works to identify records that have errors and then correct those errors to ensure patrons can access all materials in a uniform manner.

Qualifications: Attainment of a Bachelor’s degree Prefer some library coursework, including cataloging Must be at work on time at regular scheduled hours Knowledge of library practices and principles and Dewey Decimal Classification Ability to deal with vendors/patrons/staff effectively and courteously at all times Ability to follow detailed oral and written directions Ability to respond to a wide variety of practical problems and unpredictable circumstances Ability to respond to changing technology and/or procedures Ability to receive constructive criticism in an effort to improve job performance Ability to operate general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers and typewriter with minimal training Ability to lift and move heavy objects, stoop, bend, move books and sit or stand for prolonged periods of time Ability to perform essential job functions with minimal supervision Exhibits pride in all work performed Ability to maintain interest and level of work output with repetitive work. JOB SUMMARY:
The Copy Cataloger works closely with the Technical Services Manager. The copy cataloger is responsible for electronically locating, editing, saving, and maintaining non-fiction bibliographic records in all formats and accompanying authority records. The person in this position must have the ability to perform detailed tasks accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision, adapt to changing technologies and procedures, establish and maintain effective working relationships with people both inside and outside the organization, effectively communicate both verbally and in written communication, and maintain regular job attendance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

TECHNICAL SERVICES:
- Enhance cataloging records provided by other libraries and vendors with additional subject terms, call numbers, search terms, and other information of local interest
- Create records that are predictable in format and accurate in content
- Describe and provide access to items in library collections, which provide access to local users, as well as being shared in the state database
- Does simple and complex copy cataloging and some original cataloging in a variety of formats and in a variety of subject areas following national cataloging standards such as Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR2R), US MARC, OCLC’s Bibliographic Formats and Standards, and other format-specific cataloging guidelines as appropriate to organize and provide access to library collections
- General computer skills, knowledge of word processing, general knowledge of the Internet, and ability to read on-screen information
- Working knowledge of library computer systems as they apply to library operations, especially cataloging
- Willingness to adhere to established local cataloging practices
- Assists with bibliographic and authority record maintenance
- Helps in identifying errors in the database and either corrects or forwards them to the appropriate person
- Assists with cleanup of local database and authority records
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL:
- Communicates effectively using a variety of methods
- Communicates effectively with a variety of audiences and individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with others to achieve common goalsWorks effectively in teams with strong team-building skills and attitudes
TECHNOLOGY:

- Keep informed about issues, services, emerging technologies, research and innovations related to libraries and relate these ideas, procedures, or projects to the library’s mission
