FIVE WRITING WORDSHOPS AVAILABLE BEFORE LOUISIANA BOOK FESTIVAL

The Louisiana Center for the Book in the State Library is hosting five WordShops for writers Friday, Nov. 1, the day before the 2013 Louisiana Book Festival.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier will lead a full-day songwriting WordShop in the State Library of Louisiana’s Capitol View Room. Gauthier will help participants find a unique writing voice they can use to create musical reminders of life’s journeys.

Author and Southern Living columnist Rick Bragg will conduct a WordShop on nonfiction writing with literary style 9 a.m. to noon at the Capitol Park Museum.

A half-day WordShop for high school students, taught by Manuel Gonzales, will concentrate on creating horror and fantasy stories from everyday life. The $25 WordShop will be held in the State Library’s Seminar Center from 9 a.m. to noon.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Capitol Park Museum, T. Geronimo Johnson will present The Scenic Route, a WordShop focusing on crafting scenes that engage readers.

Another half-day WordShop will be held in the Seminar Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Darrelyn Saloom will present A Writer’s Guide to Social Media with an Emphasis on Twitter.

Registration is $40 for half-day and $75 for the full day WordShops. Registration and payment are due by Oct. 25. Free parking is available at the Capitol Park Welcome Center parking garage.
