Second Supervision and Management Course for Support Staff Set for April

April 1, 2011 will kick off the second Supervision and Management course presented by State Library staff.  This is a 6-weeks course covering staffing and human resources topics, policies, planning, budgeting, ethics and interpersonal relationships. The first and last sessions will be full day classes held in Ruston at Lincoln Parish Library; the intervening weeks will be 4 webinars.  The first session is on a Friday; all other sessions are on Thursdays.  There will be some homework and an open-book test at the end of the course.

The course is aimed at paraprofessional library staff, although anyone may come.  This course is also certified for and contributes toward Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC), which requires achieving 6 competencies.  For more information on LSSC, go to: http://www.ala-apa.org/lsscp/index.html.   Anyone who has a high school diploma and has worked in a library for at least a year is eligible to enter the LSSC program.

The course was last held in the Fall of 2009 and 17 staff successfully completed the course and graduated. For more information or to register, contact Library Development at 225-342-4931 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
