Executive Leadership Training for Louisiana Librarians Grant Extended

The State Library has received permission from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to extend the 3-year leadership grant for an additional year.  Because the State Library was so frugal in its expenditures during the August 2010 week-long Institute, enough funds remained to repeat part of the grant.  The 8 one-day operational workshops will be repeated between August 2011 and June 2012.  During the first round of these workshops, the State Library had to turn registrants away and limit participation to new directors and middle managers with an MLS.  Each class offered had a waiting list.

The eight  sessions that will be repeated cover personnel and HR issues, advocacy, governance, strategic planning, budgeting, use of statistics, facilities, service evaluation, and more.  Most sessions will be presented by outside speakers, experts in their fields.  Emphasis will be on the nuts ‘n bolts of public library management.   This time, the classes will be open to any library staff with an MLS and/or in a management position.  There is no charge for the series; it is covered by the grant.
More information will be announced this summer.
