Express Yourself @ Your Library

Teen Summer Reading Program 2009

“Express Yourself @ the Library” is the slogan for the Teen Summer Reading Program, which will be offered by public libraries throughout the state.  The Teen Summer Reading Program is open to individuals ages 12-18.   The focus will be on creative forms of expression.  Teens will be invited to participate in a variety of artistic-related activities, such as poetry slams, readers’ theatre, talent shows, improvisational programs, song-writing workshops, teen film festivals, fashion shows, photography, comic drawing workshops, and art programs.  This year’s original teen artwork was created by Brad Sneed, who has illustrated12 books. The goal of the Teen Summer Reading Program is to offer a variety of activities to draw teens into the library, encourage them to continue reading over the summer, and to cultivate a love of reading in Louisiana’s next generation.
Families are encouraged to check with their local public library to learn about specific incentives and programs available for teens in their community.

The 2010 Teen Summer Reading Slogan will be "Make Waves at Your Library".
