McNeese State University invites qualified applicants and nominations for the position of Acquisitions Librarian/Assistant Professor in the Frazar Memorial Library. This is a full-time, 12–month, unclassified, tenure-track position. The appointment is available November 2011.
Position Description and Responsibilities: The Acquisitions Librarian reports to the Library Director and provides leadership for planning, implementing, and managing monographs, serials, and information resources acquisitions; supervises staff in those areas; serves on a variety of internal and external committees; and coordinates the library’s liaison program for all academic departments.
• Manages the collection development of monographs.
• Select, supervise, and evaluate the performance of staff.
• Provide staff training as needed.
• Formulate policies and procedures to effectively and efficiently coordinate the activities for all departments that report to this position.
• Prepare and administer the Acquisitions and Serials budgets.
• Coordinate the acquisition of materials in all formats including books, continuations, electronic resources, and journals.
• Coordinate the evaluation, licensing, and performance of electronic resources.
• Prepare budget expenditures and collection analysis reports and maintain appropriate records.
• Maintain effective communication with library department heads and library representatives of academic departments.
• Serve on library, university, state, and national committees.
• Administer grant funded projects and draft grant proposals as needed.
• Keep abreast of trends and changes in libraries and librarianship through the reading of professional literature and attending professional meetings, workshops, and conferences.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required:
• Master degree in Library and Information Science (MLS, MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university.
• Minimum of three – five years of professional experience in an academic library with at least one year of supervisory experience and one year of acquisitions or serials experience.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proven ability to manage and oversee complex projects, meet deadlines, and to prioritize work in alignment with the service and goals of the library and the university.
• Familiarity with emerging trends in academic acquisitions and serials operations.
• Sufficient mobility and dexterity to move around the Library and retrieve and carry materials from library shelving and cabinets, including standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 35 lbs), ability to work with keyboard, mouse, and monitor for extended periods of time; ability to travel to attend training workshops, meetings, and conferences.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellent service and ability to work successfully in a collegial environment within a diverse university community that includes: faculty, students, library staff, and other members of the university community, members of the profession, and the general public.
Preferred:
• Experience with Sirsi/Dynix Symphony ILS.
• Experience with link resolvers, EZ-Proxy, and electronic resources.
• Experience with website development.
Salary: $50,500
