BRANCH MANAGER - GENEALOGY
Job Summary
The position of Branch Manager - Genealogy is assigned to Pay Grade 84 on the Library’s Classification and Pay Scale. This position is under the immediate supervision of the Associate Director of Public Services. This is a regular full-time 40 hour per week position including evening and weekend hours. This is an exempt position.
Essential Functions
1. The Branch Manager is responsible for managing the Genealogy Library in accordance with guidelines and directives of the Library’s Mission of service to the public.
2. Responsible for selecting, training and evaluating all employees of the Branch.
3. Responsible for building a strong environment of team work by providing dynamic leadership through effective communication skills and innovative programs and plans.
4. Responsible for assisting in the preparation of the annual budget for the branch and library system utilizing accepted budgeting standards that are in compliance with the mission and strategic goals of the Library System as well as state wide library standards.
5. Responsible for maintaining a viable Genealogy and local history collection.
6. Responsible for staying current with Library trends and seeing that the Branch has state of the art facilities to serve the patrons in the best manner possible.
7. Responsible for preparing and maintaining all current reports of the Branch.
Other Duties
1. Oversees planning and implementation of Genealogy programs for youth and adults.
2. Responsible for planning, organizing, and teaching Genealogy computer classes; gives talks to area Genealogy groups.
3. Serves on system matrix teams.
4. Other duties as required.
BRANCH MANAGER - GENEALOGY
Required Qualifications, Training and Education
1. Must possess a Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited university, and
2. Two years experience with Genealogy collections and research, or
3. Bachelor Degree in related field, and
4. 4 years experience with Genealogy collections and research.
5. Must possess 2 or more years supervisory or management experience.
6. Specialized knowledge of the history of Calcasieu, Cameron, Allen, Jefferson Davis, and Beauregard Parishes.
7. Considerable knowledge of other repositories containing genealogical and historical resources of value to those researching Imperial Calcasieu Parish.
8. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, practical applications of computer operations and procedures, and typing skills.
9. Considerable knowledge of the standard principles, practices, procedures, and technology of genealogical work, and typical modern library duties such as, but not limited to circulation, information services, and programming for all levels.
10. Must possess high level of oral and written communication skills in order to communicate effectively with other employees and the general public.
11. Ability to make decisions recognizing established policies and to use resourcefulness, tact, and courtesy, in meeting new problems and in dealing with library patrons.
12. Ability to use and train others to use all audio-visual equipment, online resources, wireless, and other technologies within the library.
Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
2. Limited bending, stretching, reaching, climbing, stooping, twisting, and kneeling are required.
3. Must take and pass a physical exam, lumbar x-rays, and drug screen prior to employment
Salary
1. $14.66/hour and up, depending on qualifications and experience.
2. Calcasieu Parish Public Library employees are paid through the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury via mandatory direct deposit.
