Description:

The Administrative Board of Trustees of the Covington County Library System seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and public service oriented individual to lead the Covington County Library System, consisting of three branches (2 full-time and 1 part-time) with a current staff of four.

Covington County is approximately half-way between Jackson and Hattiesburg on Highway 49.  County population is approximately 19,500 with library branches in three towns – Collins (headquarters), Seminary, and Mount Olive.

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the Covington County Library System Administrative Board of Trustees, the Director is responsible for all areas of library management and administration including personnel supervision, collection development, budget creation and management, bookkeeping, policy development and implementation, grant writing, E-rate applications, fund raising, community relations, setting and devising strategies to reach goals, and general planning and management activities.  Travel and participation in library related continuing education programs and conferences will be required.  Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Requirements:

MLS from an ALA-accredited library school.  At least two-three (2-3) years of varied and progressively responsible library and/or management experience (including supervisory background) is strongly preferred.  Experience with library technology, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a cooperative spirit focused on expanding library services is essential.

Salary & Benefits:

$30,000-40,000 per year depending on experience.  Benefits include personal/major medical leave, paid employee state health insurance, Mississippi Public Employees’ Retirement, and participation in the state’s life insurance and deferred compensation programs.
