Library Assistant III

Bossier Parish Library, Aulds Branch seeks Library Assistant III, Evening/Weekend Supervisor.   Schedule is Monday & Tuesday 4pm – 8pm;  Saturday 8:30am-5:00pm;  Sunday 1:30pm-5:00pm, for a total of 19.5 hours.

Duties include but are not limited to:  counseling and availability to night and evening staff;  interpreting and implementing library policies, procedures, and values with the staff and public;  setting up library facilities for use by staff and patrons before opening on weekends (ex. turning on Internet computers, unlocking doors, emptying book drop, etc.);  establishing priority of work tasks for staff;  setting tone for, motivating, and demonstrating public service and public relations excellence;  consulting/ meeting with library users (patrons) for compliments, requests, complaints, etc. in a patient, supportive, pleasant manner;  communicating with and responding to problem patrons;  supervising circulation personnel and delegating duties among assigned circulation staff (ex. reading of shelves, shelving of books, breaks and lunches);  performing circulation desk duties;  assisting library patrons in using library resources and finding information in the collection, with computer resources and interlibrary loan in person and by telephone;  conducting effective reference interviews to determine patron needs;  accompanying patrons to shelves to locate materials whenever possible;  supervising and providing continuing training to new evening and weekend library staff;  supervising the receiving and recording of overdue fines;  overseeing return of books and materials to shelves or storage places;  evaluating circulation operating procedure and making suggestions for adjustments as needed to improve efficiency;  closing library facilities by shutting down computer terminals, study rooms, etc., locking doors, counting, recording and locking up fine and copy money, picking up books and magazines from tables and re-shelving as necessary;  running Days End Report daily on circulation terminal before closing.

Qualifications:  Two years public library public service experience with documented evidence of managerial and administrative effectiveness; experience in references showing capability to fulfill job description; prior public contact and public service experience and skills a must. Experience in public communications will be considered a plus. Documented record of establishing strong, supportive, cooperative relationships and positive communications with coworkers and supervisors in a collaborative, cooperative work setting. 

Must adhere to mission, policies and plans of Library Board. Requires working under the supervision of the Aulds Branch Manager, and working closely and in full cooperation with Aulds Library staff.  Between $23,000 - $27,000, benefits (if applicable) through Bossier Parish Police Jury. Pre-employment drug screening.
