The Ochsner Health System, in New Orleans, Louisiana, invites applications and nominations for the Manager, Ochsner Medical Library and Archives. The Ochsner Medical Library and Archives is an integral partner in the clinical, research, education, and patient care mission of the institution.
Position Description:
The Library Manager coordinates the daily library operations in collaboration with the knowledge management teams and academic leadership. The Ochsner Library currently consists of three professional staff members and two paraprofessional staff members. The Manager directs, plans, and implements all information and archive services for the Ochsner Health System and its affiliates. These library sites include: Main Library at Ochsner Medical Centers in New Orleans, Baptist, Baton Rouge, Kenner, West Bank, St. Anne Hospital and Northshore Regions. The Manager oversees the integration of scholarly and clinical evidence based tools through creative applications such as our electronic medical record, EPIC. This leader is also responsible for the development of strong and responsive collections and services including partnering with the Ochsner faculty, University of Queensland affiliates (Brisbane, Australia), and other health care professionals. The Library works closely with the Information Services Division to oversee the management and maintenance of our corporate data model and taxonomies for our information systems. As part of the Knowledge Management Team, the Library serves as a critical resource for all clinical and consumer-related resources. The position also serves as an advocate for current and emerging technologies to enhance library services; creates a climate that ensures an effective service-oriented philosophy throughout the organization; and provides visionary leadership in the ongoing development of new and existing user services.
Reporting to the Director of Knowledge Management, the Library Manager leads, directs, and assesses all library services and programs, provides fiscal and human resource management, conducts short- and long-term planning, and employs appropriate risk management strategies. Minimum Requirements
Position requires an ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent with 5 - 10 years Library administrative experience. Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals and active participation in the Medical Library Association and local and regional consortiums preferred. Previous experience should include financial management, contract negotiations, and business propositions. Must have knowledge of current and emerging technologies and understanding of their potential implications and opportunities in a teaching hospital setting with numerous satellite clinics. Possesses knowledge of server and networking technologies, electronic resource management and integrated library system applications, and Internet-based technologies and resources. Experience with website management, information architecture and website usability principles would be beneficial. Experience in the development of taxonomies, formal ontologies (OWL), thesauri and other types of controlled vocabularies would also be helpful for enterprise projects.

Overall physical workload is light.
