Job Summary/Basic Function:
Assists the technical services coordinators with cataloging and acquisitions processes for all library acquisitions, college-wide, using the library's automated system, SIRSI symphony; Provides supervision for the technical services Library Specialist 2; Assists the serials and access services librarians on a routine basis.
Minimum Qualifications/ Work Experience:
Five years of experience in which clerical work was a major duty, three years of which must have been in clerical library work, and one year of which must have been as a library paraprofessional.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in a business, office machines, secretarial science, or closely related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of one month of full-time training for one month of experience.
Completion of a Secretary or Executive Assistant program of at least twelve months duration approved by the Department of Civil Service from a business school or technical institute will substitute for two years of the required general experience. For less than completion of the program, credit will be allowed under the first paragraph for substitutions. All training must have been resident study.
College training will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
A baccalaureate degree will substitute for the general clerical and clerical library work only.
NOTE:
There is no substitution for the one-year of library paraprofessional work.
Preferred Qualifications/ Work Experience:
Applicants with supervisory experience and work experience with SIRSI Symphony Software including but not limited to circulation, cataloging, booking and reserves.

Physical Demands:
Able to push and pull a book cart, lift up to 30 pounds and step on and off a step stool.

Downloads acquisitions records and performs simple and complex copy-cataloging for new acquisitions, including books, audio-visual, software, and serials, for all Delgado Community College libraries using SIRSI Symphony, the library's automated system, the dewey decimal classification tables for call number verification, the cutter sanborn table for the cutter number, Library of Congress Subject Headings for the subject headings, and the online computer library center (OCLC) Bibliographic utility, Connexion, for authority and bib records

Supervises library specialist 2 in all departmental work; trains staff and student workers on the various applications in a coordinated manner for the purposes of labeling and participating in record entry and various cleanup projects; supervises all processing and performs quality assurance on all work exiting the department; maintains bibliographic records and authority records in the database for all Delgado libraries

Processes all added volumes and withdrawn holdings for database maintenance; performs exporting and verification tasks using the OCLC Connexion client; SIRSI Symphony library automation software, and Microsoft Excel; performs serials check-ins; provides monthly annual statistical reports for technical services activities; performs other duties as assigned by the Cataloging Coordinator, Collection Development, and Serials Librarians, or the College-wide Dean of library services.
