Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (extended hours when requested)

Orange Beach, AL

Job Summary
 
Plans and administers library services under the direction of the Dean of Library by performing the following duties personally or in conjunction with other librarians.
 
Essential Job Tasks Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Deliver a dynamic reference experience which promotes inquiry and critical thinking, and strives to produce information literate and technically proficient self-directed learners.
  • Develop web-based research guides and instructional materials help users.
  • Experience collaborating with teaching faculty to create and advance professional relationships that align library teaching objectives with course outcomes.
  • Cultivate a variety of relationships to successfully integrate library support into the curriculum.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles, information literacy concepts, and their connection with teaching and learning issues in higher education.
  • Coursework or professional experience with Adobe, Camtasia and other software for creating library tutorials and interactive modules.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards for persons with disabilities.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
 
Knowledge

  • Significant knowledge of library, learning resources, and distance education and operations.
  • Must be an effective communicator for Columbia Southern University Library not only on the campus but externally to the wider profession.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, and their application to academic library instruction.
  • Knowledge of copyright principles as they relate to online instructional design.

Skills

  • Strong communication, analytical, interpersonal, and motivational skills
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with faculty and staff, students, and community members.

Abilities

  • Work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from multi-cultural backgrounds and promote access, success, and equity.
  • Display the initiative, imagination, and social sophistication necessary to pursue innovation within online institution.

Education & Experience

  • Masters of Library Science or Library and Information Science required.
  • Experience with learning management systems used in higher education.
  • Experience collaborating with teaching faculty to create and advance professional relationships that align library teaching objectives with course outcomes.
  • Administrative experience that includes significant responsibility for budget and planning, preferably in an academic library.

Equipment Used

  • Office equipment including computers, telephones, printers, faxes, and copiers.
  • Software use include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, and internal database software.
  • Software use include Camtasia, LibGuides and LibraryH3lp platform.

Work Environment
 
Works primarily within a climate controlled environment within a cubicle setting mostly sedentary with frequent sitting, occasional walking and lifting, and frequent near vision use for reading and computer use. Noise level is generally moderate.
