Education and/or Experience:
- Master of Library and Information Science; or
- Bachelors Degree with two years experience in a library setting or directly-related
youth programming; or
- 3 years of library experience with significant experience planning and implementing
youth programming.
Work Schedule:
- 40 hours per week.
- Saturday morning work in rotation with other staff.
- Must be able to work a flexible, irregular, and varied work schedule including non-
traditional hours as needed.
Other Requirements:
- Excellent computer skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Able to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
- Able to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- A valid drivers license and clean driving record.
- Must agree to a criminal and financial background check.
- Must be able to lift, carry, pull, and push a maximum of 45 pounds.
- Must be able to reach above shoulder heights and below the waist.
- Must be able to repeatedly bend, stoop, squat, climb ladder, sit or stand for extended
periods of time.
Duties:
- Plans and conducts programming for youth ages 0-17 at the main branch of the
library, including weekly story hours, summer reading program, and monthly teen
programs.
- Selects materials for children/teen literature to be added to the collection.
- Provides outreach services to area daycares, pre-schools, schools, homeschool groups,
after-school programs, and other community groups.
- Serves as a liaison between the library and other organizations serving children.
- Researches and prepares grants in promotion of youth activities.
- Performs reference services to assist students and others with research materials and
provides readers advisory assistance.
- Participates in public speaking engagements to increase awareness of what the library
offers.
- Attends workshops and conferences as required by the Director.
- Staff the public service desk when needed.
- Other duties as required.
