Institutional Users

The State Library’s Talking Books and Braille Library (TBBL) service is available to institutions whose clientele includes blind, visually impaired, or physically disabled persons eligible for materials from the TBBL collection.

Such institutions include schools, hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, prisons, and rehabilitation centers. TBBL asks each institution to assign a specific staff member to be responsible for playback equipment, books (recorded, Braille, and/or large print), and any special accessories loaned by TBBL to the institution. These items are federal property and institutions are held accountable for their location and condition.

Equipment and materials are for institutional use only.  If an individual residing in an institution desires his or her own library service, he or she should fill out an Application Form for Free Library Service: Individuals from our application page. For more information about TBBL service to institutions, or to request an institutional application form, please contact TBBL at 1-800-543-4702 or (225) 342-0035 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
