Borrowing Materials

While everyone is welcome to visit the State Library and use the resources on-site, only Louisiana state employees, Louisiana elected officials and State Library Board members have borrowing privileges (State Library Of Louisiana Circulation Policy). If you fall into one of these groups, you may register online for your Library card or visit the Library’s Circulation Desk for an application.

If you do not fall under one of these categories, you may still be able to use State Library material through the interlibrary loan program. Visit your local public library for assistance in obtaining items from the State Library through interlibrary loan.

Lending Policies
The Library’s Circulation Policy  is available online or as a pdf file.

The State Library Collection
Anyone may search the Library’s online catalog  to see what books, magazines and newspapers, state and federal documents, and audiovisual materials are in the  collection. You will also be able to see if the material is on the shelf or if it is checked out. Once you have your library card, you may access online databases  from your home or office 24/7.
