Position Summary

The Student Engagement Librarian collaborates with personnel across the Collections and Archives (C&A) division and throughout the university to develop and promote library services that support student success, recruitment, and retention. This position holds a faculty appointment with rank leading to tenure. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person and online research assistance and instruction for multiple disciplines;
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop and offer customized, course-integrated instruction;
  • Serve as collection management liaison to designated academic departments;
  • Provide library instruction for first-year experience classes, the first year writing program and other core curriculum courses in collaboration with academic departments and support units;
  • Collaborate with other C&A personnel and campus partners to integrate library collections and services into learning management systems;
  • Promote library resources and services to students and faculty at K-12 schools, concurrent programs, external campuses, and two-year partner institutions;
  • Collaborate with other university units and student groups in support of university student success, recruitment, and retention initiatives;
  • Participate in university and division assessment efforts, focusing on the C&A’s division’s impact on student success and student learning outcomes;
  • Collaborate with other university units and student groups in support of university community;
  • Build partnerships and relationships among C&A units, as well as with others in the university community;
  • Engage in scholarly, professional, and service activities in accordance with institutional and faculty governance documents;
  • Work nights and weekends as needed;
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of emerging library trends and technologies;
  • Knowledge of current practices in online delivery of library and instructional content;
  • Ability to develop services in response to evolving technologies, user expectations, and patterns in learning and research collaboration;
  • Ability to collaborate with campus partners to enhance and support research at all levels, ensuring that C&A resources are integrated into teaching and learning;
  • Excellent oral, written and online communication skills;
  • Experience with developing and providing instruction and training;
  • Ability to work independently and in groups;
  • Commitment and ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a collegial environment.

Required Education and/or Experience

Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA -accredited school.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

One (1) or more years’ professional experience in an academic library setting; Experience with instructional design, online course software, electronic resource management and web design.
